BlackBerry Z10 to Cost INR Rs 45,000?
BlackBerry has revived its image with the new BlackBerry 10 series phones, and mainly with the help of BlackBerry Z10. While the device is already launched abroad and selling strongly, the Z10 is set to reach Indian shores on February 25th.
However, the phone is available on certain e-commerce sites well before its Indian unveiling. The price mentioned on the store listing is well above the expected price. Blackberry Z10 has been priced at approximately Rs 45,000! While tech enthusiasts and critics of Z10 has pegged the price at approximately Rs 38,000 to Rs 40,000 depending on the specifications and the target audience.
If the price mentioned on Tradus turns out to be the official price, BlackBerry might want to revise theor strategy. Though the phone boasts of some brilliant specs, India is still a price-sensitive market and sales might be hit despite the features.
So far, HTC is the only phone maker to have crossed the Rs 45,000 mark and earning the label of being the most expensive Indian phone. The HTC Butterfly which was released in India in early 2013 is priced even more than the latest version of Apple’s iPhone! The competition might get stiff between BlackBerry and HTC if the price listed on the site turns out to be true.
However, considering the hype surrounding the Z10, BlackBerry has earned itself a huge black-market in India. The phone was selling in the grey market for well over Rs 75,000! As the release date nears, the prices have dropped. The price on the site might be just one of such attempts to sell the yet-to-be-released phone and mint profits.
We’re hoping BlackBerry will price the phone according to the Indian mindset. While we don’t expect them to offer the Z10 at Rs 15,000; a price tag of approximately Rs 37-38,000 won’t hurt.
The BlackBerry Z10 holds a dual-core 1.5GHz processor under the hood along with 2GB of RAM. The phone’s internal memory is 16 GB (expandable to 64 GB). Other specifications include a 4.2 inch display and 8 MP camera.
